It’s cool courtesy as a member of the car pool in Tassie to be mindful at all times. Mindful of the space you are sharing and the road you are travelling. So, please check out some cool etiquette to make it a great journey for everyone.
• Safe Driving- Defensive, safe driving is the only way to drive in the pool. Obey by all traffic laws, stay focused and it should be a cool trip.
• Clean Cars- Cool cars to ride in have safety belts, are well maintained mechanically by the driver, and are looked after inside also, to make for an inviting travel space for fellow car poolers.
• Music. Music is great for journeys, but be respectful in your choice of tunes and thoughtful as to the volume of the music when travelling with other people.
• Payment- It’s cool to pay the money (if it is not a trade) before driving out towards the destination. This ensures that there’s a trust between driver and passenger and that the driver has some extra cash to help fill up the car if necessary.
• Filling Up- unless you have discussed with your ride share that you will split the fuel evenly and/or the fuel station is on the way out of town, try and organise picking up your ride with a tank of gas/petrol.
• Pick up & Drop Offs- It’s cool in the pool if the passengers can make their way to the driver’s nominated pick up point (make sure it is visible and public- safety first!), and that the driver can drop off some where practical (nearby or at the passenger’s destination or alternatively a public transport portal).
• Perfumes and Odours- It’s cool courtesy to avoid using strong perfumes, removing smelly shoes and that type of thing when sharing a confined space in an automobile in the car pool. Respect the pooler/s in your company.
• Detours En route- It is not cool in the car pool to take picnics and short cuts, or detours, or long stops. The car pool is an A to B connecting service. Please stay on track and schedule.
• Are you a late person? Be on time!! If you have an appointment in the pool, don’t be late- and if something comes up and you are running late- call your driver/passenger well ahead.
• Do you smoke? Maybe this is not so cool in the car. If you are the driver and a smoker, chances are the passengers will be too polite to say it does bother them if you asked their permission to light up a ciggi…so, be aware that people are polite, and smoking isn’t so cool in the pool.
• Snacks. It’s cool to check with your pooling partners before jumping aboard with hot food, or opening up packets of food (such as nuts) that may be harmful or disturbing for those sharing the ride.
• Toilet Stops. We all have to go, but get yourself organised before the pool, and if it’s a longer ride- discuss together a good break point where this nature’s calling can be coordinated (save stopping 4 times). If you are feeling the need to use a toilet, let your driver know in advance so they can plan a stop at an appropriate place en route. Same goes for the driver to let your passengers know you are thinking of a stop ahead, so everyone knows what is going on.
• Frequent Commuters. It’s cool to keep a log of your trips and exchange rides rather than money, keeping a log of how many times you travel in your personal log book online to make sure there is an even exchange. If money will be paid, it’s cool to work out a monthly rate and pay at the end of each month (also keep a log of this in your personal log on line).
